I’m Kaitlyn, the owner of the Cowpeople. I’m a queer cowgirl from New Jersey who packed up and moved to Glasgow in 2016, and like any ride or die, I brought my boots with me.
A couple of years ago, I realised that my own western closet had gotten wildly out of hand. So, I decided to try something new: I set up a stall at the famous Barras Market, hoping to send a few of my extra cowboy treasures off to loving homes. I figured it’d be a one-off weekend, and come Monday, I’d be back to the 9-to-5 grind. But here’s the thing: I sold out. Completely.
That first weekend showed me something I wasn’t expecting, Glasgow has serious love for Western wear, and more than that, it had a very real need for a queer space full of fun, flair, and a little frontier magic. So I went all in. I sourced some new buckles, boots, and shirts, and I came back the very next weekend. And guess what? You came back too.
From that moment on, Cowpeople became more than just a stall, it became a community. With your support, your energy, and your love, we’ve grown from a single table to a full blown shop on Sustainable Fashion Row at the Barras Market with a talented team and now- a virtual store! We’re proud to be serving up queer Western realness in the heart of Glasgow’s East End. And now, with the launch of our website, we can bring queer cowboy realness all across the UK and EU! This isn’t just a business, it’s a shared dream. Thanks for stopping by partner.
